Kirby Smart

Its been a slow week here at C&C, so I thought I would post a loaded question headed into the weekend. This is just a question to hear everyone's thoughts because I definitely am very unsure of what my response would be....

Lets just say UGA could hire Kirby Smart, and not to be an extra guy for Caleb and R. Samuel to run over once they get to the secondary. Kirby has already had that job when opposing players would run through him like a "Peking" buffet on a Sunday afternoon. He was a defensive back for the Dawgs back in the mid 90's ... could UGA hire him away from Alabama and Nick Saban to be the Dawgs defensive coordinator? He currently holds that position for Alabama, even though everyone knows that it is Saban's defense. Kirby has learned from one of the best defensive coaches in the country and he is a Dawg alum. So, what do you think....would you want Coach Kirby Smart to be Georgia's Defensive Coordinator???

Ha. Funny references to good ole days. Nothing better for a hangover than the Chinese buffets on Sunday mornings/afternoons.

First immediate reaction to your question - I think I would take Kirby as our DC. Even though that is Saban's D, there has got to be a reason that Saban has kept Kirby on his staff (I believe he was on Saban's staff in the NFL @ MIA and now at Bama) and promoted him to DC. Not to mention the fact that Kirby has had the opportunity to learn from one of the best defensive minds in college football.

Hell, I'd take Bruno Kirby at DC right now, and I don't even think he is alive anymore (nope, just checked, he is in fact deceased.)

I'd prefer Muschamp, but he's probably locked up where he's at due to the arrangement they set him up with.

I would think Smart would jump at the opportunity to get out from under Saban's thumb (even though he basically owes his entire career to the man.) Just knowing how Saban is, if Smart left him for another SEC school I could see it being one of those Belichek/Mangino type relationships, especially in what Saban would consider a lateral move (jumping from DC at Bama to DC at UGA.) Kirby may not have the type of personality to get into something like that. Just a thought.

I would love to get Kirby as DC. I would take him over Muschamp. I think he is a bit over rated. The Dawgs don't seem to have problems putting points on his defenses.

I would like to have him here, but I do not believe KS was really happy here, even outside coaching the rb and not being allowed to move to defense. I do not belive he would consider coming here.

I miss Kirby and would like to see him back in Athens. If you ax me, he did as much for my college career as anybody.

Kirby Smart... in a word YES.

Okay, he wasn't awesome at safety when he played, a little undersized, but fast as hell. He was pretty darn good, though. But, he played smart (forgive the pun). He put himself in position to make interceptions. He knows the game. He has been with Saban at LSU, NFL and now Bama. Clearly he has learned something and proved himself to a good coach. Bring him back to Athens.

I think it would be great to have Kirby Smart for our defensive coordinator. Why would he not want to be with Coach Richt? I beleive Mark has beat Saban as much as he has beat The Dawgs.Plus Mark has much more class.Who the heck would want to live in Alabama when you could live in Athens,Ga.Where was Alabama in 2007 when we finished #2 in the nation? The Big Dawg will be Back!

I'm not so certain that Smart would accept the offer. It looks like he's followed Saban wherever he's gone, plus Smart is from Alabama. He was under Richt in 2005 and could have stayed if he wanted to be in Athens so much. I think Kirby is living his childhood dream right now: coaching Bama to a National Championship.
