Countdown to UGA-OSU: 30 Days (#30 Carlton Thomas)

#30 Carlton Thomas, RB
5-7, 180, Frostproof FL (Frostproof HS), RS Freshman

Yet another player that just about every Dawg fan can't wait to see in his first game action. As a recruit, he jumped on the Dawgs' radar screen out of nowhere. Thomas was an Under Armour All-American after his senior season, and some will remember put on quite a show during the practices leading up to that game. To be so small, it isn't really his straight line speed that is so impressive...he is lightning quick and shifty, and alot more powerful than you might think at 180 lbs. (He is one of the stronger players on the team "pound for pound.")

Depth Chart Analysis: It is almost a given at this point that Thomas is going to see some action at running back (8 carries for 59 yards in the G-Day game), but more than likely he is going to make his biggest impact as a kick and punt returner, which is probably his specialty going back to his Frostproof days. He hasn't nailed down either job yet, but he's getting plenty of chances so far in August. It is going to be fun to see how he is utilized in 2009. There are alot of possibilities for a player with Thomas' skill set.

Other famous #30s in UGA history: RB Bruce Kemp (1969 Sports Illustrated cover), FB Scott Williams, S (and future Texas head coach) Will Muschamp, FB Keith Henderson, PK Billy Bennett, S Kelin Johnson
