Countdown to UGA-OSU: 29 Days (#29 Makiri Pugh)

#29 Makiri Pugh, FS
6-0, 200, Charlotte NC (Independence HS), RS Freshman

Pugh signed with UGA prior to last season over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Clemson. He was thought of as a possibility to play as a true freshman, but a nagging ankle injury prior to the season kept him behind the curve. Once he started to get healthy, he really began to make a name for himself in practice as a physical safety. The redshirt ended up being a good thing for him, as he put on about 10-15 lbs and has himself ready to compete against what he'll see week in and out in the SEC. He had a very nice spring.

Depth Chart Analysis: Pugh has a very good shot to be the backup free safety, although that is by no means a certainty at this point. Given John Knox's exit from the program, and the fact that Bryan Evans will be starting there at a relatively new position, Pugh figures to get a good bit of playing time. He'll get a push from some other candidates (namely Nick Williams), but Pugh will get his chances this season.

Other famous #29s in UGA history: S Buck Swindle, DB Bob Kelly, DB/PR Thomas Flowers
