Countdown to UGA-OSU: 61 Days (#61 Ben Jones)

#61 Ben Jones, C
6-3, 295, Centreville AL (Bibb County HS), Soph.

After a stellar high school athletic career (he was an outstanding baseball player as well), Jones came to UGA and made an immediate impact. He enrolled at UGA in January, had a terrific spring, and opened the season as the backup center. He'd quickly work his way up to become the starter, and wound up starting 10 games. He was named Freshman All-SEC and also made his way onto most Freshman All-America teams. He was also honored with SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Kentucky game. The ideal Stacy Searles lineman. Tough, talented, and mean.

Depth Chart Analysis: Even though he had some very minor thumb surgery in the offseason, he won the team's True Grit Award in the spring. He's a lock to start the season (and probably the next 3 years) at center. He's a solid candidate for All-SEC center in the coming years.

Other famous #61s in UGA history: DL Eddie "Meat Cleaver" Weaver, OL Tony Cushenberry, OL Pat Rodrigue

Maybe my favorite player on the team.
