Countdown to UGA-OSU: 38 Days (#38 Marcus Dowtin)

#38 Marcus Dowtin, LB
6-2, 220, Upper Marlboro MD (Fork Union Military), Soph.

It was clear early in Dowtin's career at UGA that he was going to play early for the Dawgs. He did just that, playing in every game as a true freshman, with 17 tackles and a forced fumble in Tempe. Just watching him play last year, it was evident that he really knew what he was doing out there, especially given how much he found himself around the ball. He seems to have great instincts and knows how to play the game. He might be the most athletic of UGA's true linebackers. Besides being a physical specimen (as most of the UGA linebackers are), Dowtin is also a really solid tackler (or more specifically, a solid "hitter.")

Depth Chart Analysis: Coach Richt announced late in spring that Marcus Washington had passed Dowtin on the depth chart as the #2 Will Linebacker. That doesn't really mean that we can expect to see Dowtin less this year. He's probably going to see some action on special teams, and definitely will see some time on defense. The fact that he's down the depth chart this far speaks as much to the depth this team has at linebacker more than anything else.

Other famous #38s in UGA history: TB Tim Worley, WR Jimmy Orr, DE Marcus Howard, RB Hilton Young, RB Bobby Towns, DB Larry West

I was really impressed with him from the get go last year. It seems like when he's on the field, plays are being made. You are right about his instincts and his nose for the ball.
