Countdown to UGA-OSU: 83 Days (#83 Cornelius Washington)

#83 Cornelius Washington, DE
6-4, 283, Hephzibah GA (Burke County HS), RS Freshman

Washington came to UGA last season as a top-rated defensive end prospect, choosing the Dawgs over just about every other school in the South. Slightly undersized when he arrived in Athens, he redshirted in 2008 presumably to get some more weight on. He missed spring drills in 2009 to rehab from various injuries, but it appears he'll be ready to go in August. He's not someone you first think of when you imagine potential defensive surprises this year, but he's got all the tools to be very good.

Depth Chart Analysis: Call me crazy, but this guy is my defensive sleeper for the upcoming season. If he can stay healthy, I think he has the opportunity to be an unstoppable force at defensive end one day, and perhaps the answer to some of the questions about UGA’s pass rush. He’s a freakish athlete with unlimited potential. This may be the year he gets to show it off on the field. He isn’t going to start, at least not early in the season, but he’ll get his chances.

Other famous #83s in UGA history: DE Mixon Robinson, DE Robert Miles (starter on 1980 National Championship team)

Possibly the player I'm most looking forward to watching play. Didn't he win State in the 100? If he plays to his potential, he could be as good as we've had at DE.
