Countdown to UGA-OSU: 75 Days (Kiante Tripp)

Kiante Tripp, DE
6-6, 294, Atlanta GA (Westlake HS), RS Jr.

Tripp's career in Athens to this point has been a bit of a roller-coaster. Most thought before he arrived in Athens, many thought that he'd end up as an offensive lineman. During his redshirt season in 2006, the coaches evaluated him mostly at offensive line, but the thought was in place that he could end up switching if injuries or depth created a need for him to play defensive end. Still, he landed at offensive tackle and played 8 games there in 2007. In 2008 he made 3 starts and played in 11 games at tackle. Once the depth at OL got back to normal, Tripp was moved back to defensive end this past spring and played there in G-Day. He's listed in the official UGA roster as #83, but since Cornelius Washington (a fellow DE) also wears that number, something will have to be worked out (in case they are on the field at the same time.)

Depth Chart Analysis: Tripp is big for a defensive end, but supposedly he has the speed and lateral quickness to make it work. If so, he's a nightmare matchup for some tight ends. He isn't expected to start early in the season, but with DE being a position with alot of question marks, Tripp could be a big factor this season.

Famous #75s in UGA history: OL Mack Guest, OL Jonas Jennings

Dang, he is a big defensive end. Almost in the mold of a Phillip Daniels. I can only imagine the production of the defense if Tripp ends up playing like Daniels.

Seriously, he's 295 pounds and runs like a 4.75 40....we have GOT to find a place to use this guy effectively and LEAVE HIM THERE.
