Countdown to the Countdown: #16 (Tim Worley)

Friday, May 29th marks 99 days until Georgia and Oklahoma State kick off their 2009 seasons in Stillwater. Leading up that date, we are counting down the Top 25 UGA football players of the past 25 seasons.

16. Tim Worley (1986 - 1988)
  • 3rd highest TD total for single-season in UGA history: 1988 (17)
  • 5th highest career average yards per rush in UGA history: 5.8 yards per rush
  • UGA scoring leader: 1988 (108 points)
  • 4 TDs vs Mississippi State: 1988
  • 2nd highest average kickoff return for single season in UGA history: 1988 (34.3 per return)
  • 1,216 yards rushing in 1988 (led SEC)
  • All-SEC: 1988 (AP 1st team, UPI 1st team, Coaches' 1st team)
  • All-American: 1988 (Kodak, Walter Camp, Football Writers of America)
Another in a long line of great tailbacks at UGA that ran from the mid-1970's until the late 1990's. Worley was the classic toss sweep back, a steady, hard nosed, touchdown machine who was also versatile enough to catch a good number of passes out of the backfield. He parlayed is impressive junior season in 1988 to a first round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
