Game thread: #21 South Carolina at Vanderbilt

The Gamecocks, coming off a 34-0 rout of North Carolina State, visit Nashville for the SEC opener against a Vanderbilt squad that was impressive on the road in a 34-13 "upset" win over Miami of Ohio. The Commodores have asked their students to come dressed in black for the game. Chris Fowler, Craig James, and Jesse Palmer have the call for an 8 PM kickoff on ESPN.

Dr. Lou has already called his winner for UGA/SC, and no surprise that it appears he's picking the Gamecocks. "Best defense in the SEC" according to Granny.

I actually think they have a top 2 or 3 defense myself. That being said, their offense is pathetic and I think Vandy might win this game. Vandy and the points is the pick imo.

I still can't believe USC moved Pollack, I mean Eric Norwood, from DL to LB. Biggest playmaker in the league at DLine.

Just noticed that the Braves have a Sept call-up pitching a 2 hitter through 6 against the Nats.

I agree SC's defense is good. To say they are "the best" in the SEC (Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Auburn) is a stretch for even a senile idiot like Lou Holtz.

I tell you who is impressive, the cornerback DJ Moore playing for Vandy. This game is about 6 minutes old and he's already made about 4 impact plays, playing offense, defense and special teams.

If they don't get rid of Jesse Palmer then my Thursday night's will not be including college football for much longer....he is awful...and gay.

LMAO - I like Vandy's LB #49.

Wow, Kenny McKinley is Gooood. Wished he woulda stayd in state. He is what scares me next week.

Asher Allen eats pieces of crap like Kenny McKinley for breakfast. At least he will next week.

SC better block better next week. I have a feeling 33 is going to make himself a highlight reel.

I like Vandy's uniform. Great looking helmet.

SC will probably end up winning this game, for two reasons. 1) SC has a very good defense, 2) Vandy's offense is worse than awful. These guys can't get out of their own way.

Over the next week we'll all hear about how good SC is, how tough it is going to be going into Columbia and how this is going to be UGA's first stumbling block of the season. EVERYBODY will be picking SC in this game. But make no mistake, SC will not have seen 1/100th of the offensive firepower that they'll see next week. Don't forget that the ONLY reason SC won in Athens last year is because of the worst coaching job of Richt and Bobo's career, when they allowed Moreno to touch the ball zero times in the last 12 minutes of the ball game. If they feed the horse like we all know we should have, UGA probably wins the game by double digits. I still can't believe what I saw almost a year ago.

Not to mention that SC's offense is pathetic. Their QB situation is horrendous.

(above rant continued)

Maybe Spurrier can figure out a way to play 3 QBs at one time next week. I hope the felon Garcia and his mullet get into the game so Ellerbe/Curran/Dowtin can knock his greasy butt in the dirt.

Bop said...

Granted, USC will give us all kinds of hell probably, but dang they got serious qb problems. How the heck does SOS not have a competent passer on campus?

JJ said...

Is anybody else noticing Palmer's random "hoot-hoots" in the background noise?

JJ said...

I never thought I'd yearn for a "Dr. Lou" segment until they trotted out this interview with Jeri Spurrier.

McKinley has the pads off for the night. Uh oh.

Bop said...

Wow...they lose KM and they are DONE.

Speaking of the injury front, noticed a few things about UGA in reports today...
-Weston is definitely back for SC
-Banks and Southerland may be back for Bama.
-Kenny Harris is doubtful this week.

Bop said...

I pity the first LB that Southerland gets good wood on when he comes back.

Good news with Weston. Need him to produce.

That Vandy fullback must have shredded his knee/leg cause ESPN did not show the replay.

If this white kid can gash their middle like this, what will we be able to do...that is their weakness...also might see the third starter in as many weeks at QB for them unless he is still suspended...by the way...who is hotter, cindy mccain or sarah palin???

Bop said...

Palin

Mass suicide watch in all corners of the Palmetto State. Great win by Vandy. Bobby Johnson is a very solid coach. Imagine what he would do with the team in Knoxville.

Bop said...

Good call on gashing the middle against USC ugatex. That kid killed them.

JJ said...

I have a better analogy....

If ugatex is optimistic about Moreno/King/Samuel's prospects for next week, how excited about it do you think I am?

I am so happy right now. Nothing like the OBC getting embarassed on national TV.

Wish I could have seen it - did he cry? Tell me he cried.
