Countdown to UGA-GSU: 30 Days

#30 Carlton Thomas, RB
5-7, 175, Frostproof FL (Frostproof HS), True Freshman
Thomas committed to the Dawgs in September 2007, after visiting Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame and UGA. He put on a great performance during the week leading up to the Under-Armour All-American game, averaging about 27 yards per return in the game, but impressing coaches and scouts with his speed and his moves in the open field. Don't be fooled though, Thomas is a surprising package of power as well, and he'll lower his head and get right into defenders if need be.
Depth Chart Analysis: Given that the Dawgs are lacking a little bit of depth in the return game, I expect Thomas to play this season. There probably won't be a learning curve for him(you probably either have "it" or you don't if you're returning kicks and punts), and truth be told he is probably going to be right around his current weight throughout his career. Later in his career, we'll likely see him develop as a true option at tailback. Think of him as a Damien Gary or Tyson Browning type player, that should become a crowd favorite in Sanford Stadium. In their recruiting and scouting database, compared him to a mix of Barry Sanders and Joe Morris. Pretty cool. As a matter of fact, the folks at were alot higher on Thomas as a running back than most other recruiting services.

Here's some You Tube footage of Carlton while at Frostproof, courtesy of elmarubtc:

Let's see...ESPN compares him to Joe Morris and Barry Sanders. For some reason, i feel that his #20 played into that.

He looks more like a Warrick Dunn / Rock Preston type back to me.

Fortunately, he already looks better than Tyson Browning.

This kid is going to be good!

(Disclaimer: I'm just a big fan - not a scout of talent)

Upon watching the video:

First thought: wow, he's small.

Next thought: wow, look at his feet and hips.
