Countdown to UGA-GSU: 25 Days

Well, we're 3/4ths of the way through The Countdown. Got a strange feeling that these last 3 1/2 weeks are going to crawl by.

#25 Vance Cuff, CB
6-0, 195, Moultrie GA (Colquitt Co. HS), Soph.
Cuff started the college recruiting process favoring The Ohio State University, but stated that he grew up following Florida and Florida State. He publically admitted at that time that he never had thought much of Georgia, despite the fact that he grew up in the same hometown as former UGA player and head coach Ray Goff. A month later, Cuff changed his tune (once getting the UGA scholarship offer) and was headed to play his college ball in Athens. Blessed with an abundance of speed (4.4). Cuff was impressive enough from the outset of his career in Athens to see time immediately, playing in the 2007 season opener against Oklahoma State, and again in 11 other games that season, mostly on special teams. 5 of his 6 tackles on the season came in the Vanderbilt game.
Depth Chart Analysis: Keep your eye out for #25 this season. He's one of those players that has the ability to make an electrifying play on defense any time he's on the field. Most UGA fans probably don't think about him as a major factor, and given his position on the depth chart at cornerback (currently 3rd string behind Prince Miller and Bryan Evans), that makes sense. However, Cuff has a good chance of pushing for playing time at the nickel corner position, and should continue to shine on special teams. He has always shown outstanding break on the ball in his limited time last year and in spring, and might just be the best athlete we'll throw out in the secondary. As I said, just watch him once or twice when you see him in the game this season. He's going to be special with a little more coaching and alot more experience.

Cuff just might end up the best db on campus when all is said and done (seriously). If he continues to progress, I expect him to really come on over the next year. By his junior year, I expect Cuff to be a big time playmaker (Wansley, Oliver, Jennings and Minter's development come to mind).
