Countdown to UGA-GSU: 18 Days

#18 Bacarri Rambo, S
6-0, 195, Donaldsonville GA (Seminole County HS), True Freshman
Rambo was the 7th commitment of the 2008 signing class, choosing the Dawgs over Georgia Tech, Louisville, Clemson, Maryland, and Florida State (he actually re-visited FSU after he had already verbally committed to UGA, but decided to stick with the Dawgs.) Some schools recruited him as a possible player on either side of the ball, but UGA was clear from the start that they wanted him as a safety. Keeping with the theme of all the DBs that UGA brought in this season, Rambo can scoot (4.45), and he’s another one that already has the size to play immediately if needed. Danny Aller did a nice piece in the AJC on Rambo’s friendship with fellow UGA signee Nick Williams, as well as mentioning what it will mean to Rambo’s father Danny to see him play in Sanford Stadium. He may get that chance sooner than he might have first thought.
Depth Chart Analysis: Rambo shined in Monday’s scrimmage, racking up 6 tackles and a pass breakup. It appears that he’s now in a battle with John Knox for the 2nd string strong safety spot behind CJ Byrd, with Quintin Banks now on the shelf for up to 6 weeks. Rambo is yet another true freshman that I expect to see on the field early and often this season, if not on defense then certainly as a special teams contributor. UGA (specifically Rodney Garner and Mike Bobo) has a sixth sense for finding talent at DB that a lot of other schools don’t always see, especially in-state. Rambo is no exception to that.
UPDATE 8/12: It looks like Knox has settled in as the primary backup to starting free safety Reshad Jones, while Rambo has himself firmly planted as the backup to Byrd.
