Countdown to UGA-GSU: 15 Days

Blair Walsh, PK
5-10, 165, Fort Lauderdale FL (Cardinal Gibbons HS), True Freshman
The legend of Walsh coming out of high school was such that many Dawg fans think that every school in the country offered him a scholarship coming out of Cardinal Gibbons, where he was a teammate of fellow UGA freshman Jeremy Longo. While that isn't entirely accurate, Walsh was certainly among the Top 10 kicking prospects in America last year, choosing the Dawgs over Maryland, West Virginia, Central Florida, and a late push from the "hometown" Miami Hurricanes. As a junior, Walsh was 13 of 20 on FGs with a long of 57 yards. His high school team definitely wasn't afraid to send him out for the long kicks, as his accuracy rate gets much greater inside 48 yards (21 of 24.) As a senior, he was 14 of 20 on FGs (long of 59 yards, twice) with over 90 percent of his kickoffs going for touchbacks. The majority of his misses have been from long range, and it is obvious that he has more than enough leg to kick consistently well at the college level. He was also invited to kick for the East team in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and was a USA Today 1st Team All-American following his senior season.
Depth Chart Analysis: Mark Richt said just yesterday that Walsh is beginning to separate himself as the potential starting kicker for FGs and XPs, and that he has all but sewn up the job. He may also end up handling kickoffs, although walk-ons Andrew Jensen and Jamie Lindley are also in the mix there. He seems to be acclimating well to the college environment, but time will tell if he can handle the pressure of being the kicker for a National Championship contender. He has all the talent. Truth be told, he may be the best kicker that UGA has actually signed in quite some time.

There is no doubt that this position could be the difference from the Orange Bowl and Citrus Bowl.

Makes me a touch nervous, however in the CMR era, we have been blessed with some kick ass kickers....maybe CMR is a soccer player at heart!

(I may get hung for that one)
