Countdown to UGA-GSU: 10 Days

#10 Donavon Baldwin, S
6-2, 205, Fort Lauderdale FL (American Heritage HS), Jr.
Baldwin was not an extremely highly rated prospect coming out of South Florida in 2005. His other offers of note were from Central Florida and Central Michigan. Speed (4.4) was what drew the UGA coaches to him. Originally recruited as a cornerback, Baldwin was moved to safety due primarily to depth concerns prior to the 2006 season, and due to the fact that he put on about 30 lbs. Yet to make much impact on defense during his time in Athens, Baldwin has contributed primarily at special teams, recording just 4 tackles in 2 years of action. Unfortunately, an offseason arrest has left Baldwin suspended indefinitely, with no word on when he'll return to the team. He had already been suspended for the first game from an incident that occurred back in January 2008.
Depth Chart Analysis: Fall practice hadn't even started before Baldwin's latest incident, so its hard to say how much he would have contributed. Back in spring, he was "listed" as Reshad Jones' primary backup at free safety, but the emergence of some of the younger defensive backs would have certainly put some pressure on Baldwin anyway. We likely won't know for sure this year what would have been. Hopefully D.B. gets himself on track and back for his senior season.
