Countdown to UGA-GSU: 57 Days

Benjamin Boyd, LB
6-1, 210, Thomasville GA (Thomasville HS), Sr.
After a redshirt season as a walk-on in 2004, Boyd holds a rare distinction of seeing significant playing time as a walk-on in Sanford Stadium for 3 straight years. Mostly a special teams player to this point, Boyd actually got some time on defense in G-Day, perhaps foreshadowing some more significant minutes for his senior year. The rumor actually is that Boyd and Justin Fields are being moved to part-time fullback, to help shore up the position until Southerland returns from injury and while Munzenmaier serves his suspension. As far as walk-ons go, he probably has more experience than any other on the team, and will continue to be counted on as a senior leader for 2008. I'm sure there is no one that would like to leave Athens with a MNC ring any more than Boyd does.
Depth Chart Analysis: He's listed as a LB, but as mentioned above, may seem some time at fullback, at least in the practices leading up to the game 1. I expect to see him continue to get time at special teams, unless his work at FB is so good he becomes inexpendable there.

Happy 4th of July to everyone. God Bless America, always and forever, THE greatest country on this Earth. No matter what CNN tells you.
