Countdown to UGA-GSU: 55 Days

#55 Jeremy Lomax, DE
6-4, 247, Jonesboro GA (Lovejoy HS), Sr.
After a redshirt in 2004, Lomax appeared in the first 4 games of the 2005 season before a season-ending ankle injury. He'd miss the following spring rehabbing the injury, but did manage to see action in 9 games in 2006, recording a sack against UAB. Last season he appeared in all 12 games and quietly recorded 4.5 sacks. Things were looking iffy for him this season after his June 4th arrest for carrying a concealed weapon. Fortunately, he was exonerated of all charges over the weekend, and he'll face no missed time for that incident. One thing that struck me last year when watching Lomax were his instincts. In the 2nd half of the Sugar Bowl, he was jumping the snap count perfectly on every down.
Depth Chart Analysis: Lomax came through spring practice as the starter at DE, holding off a charge from Jarius Wynn. Most likely it was Lomax's past production that was the key difference. Wynn will likely give Lomax another push before the GSU game, but realistically both these guys will see significant playing time. With Michael Lemon's recent issues, the news that Lomax was exonerated of the weapons charge was welcome in what has been another offseason of multiple player arrests. Lomax will be a key piece on the d-line this season.
