Countdown to UGA-GSU: 54 Days

#54 Tanner Strickland, OG
6-5, 328, Nashville GA (Berrien County HS), RS Freshman
In August 2005, Strickland became the first commitment for the Class of 2007. He never even considered any school other than UGA once he received his offer. Florida, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida State and Virginia continued to send him letters, but he remained solid to Georgia. UGA recruited him to play guard despite that he played tackle throughout high school. There were thoughts that he might play as a true freshman, but ultimately a redshirt was in the cards. Injuries (and a Spring 2007 arrest) slowed his development during his redshirt season, but 2008 looks to be a year for Strickland to show some impact.
Depth Chart Analysis: Strickland actually worked with the #1 offensive line at the beginning of spring practice, but probably sits at #2 or #3 left guard heading into the season. Vince Vance is the likely backup at both guard spots, but Strickland should see the field on the left side. He's one of the strongest players on the team, and definitely one of the smartest. Look for #54 to provide some key minutes at left guard in 2008.
