Countdown to UGA-GSU: 51 Days

#51 Akeem Dent, LB
6-2, 218, Atlanta GA (Douglass HS), RS Soph.
Dent was a latecomer in the Signing Class of 2006. He didn't really start garnering attention until the summer before his senior season, when he started getting interest from Clemson and Ole Miss. Offers from Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia followed, but the Dawgs were ultimately the pick for Dent in December 2006. (Florida made a late push to no avail.) After a foot injury contributed to his receiving a redshirt for the 2006 season, Dent was right in the mix to start at Sam LB heading into the season, but wound up beginning the campaign as the #2 man behind Darius Dewberry. He finished up the season starting 5 games and tallying 36 tackles. He is probably the best athlete in the entire linebacking corp, and looks to be coming into his own very early in his career.
Depth Chart Analysis: Most think that Dent should be able to hold off Dewberry and head into the GSU game as the starter at Sam LB. That said, Sam has been a position at UGA that hasn't been used as much in recent past thanks to the multiple spread offenses and 5-wide sets that UGA will see throughout any given season. As a result, you may see Dent lining up more in the middle in a 4-2-5 set, although the chances of him pushing Dannell Ellerbe off the field for any length of time are not great. Still, Dent is a good talent that will contribute immensely in whatever capacity he's out there.

To hear you say Dent is probably a better athlete than Curran makes me feel real good about LB.
