Countdown to UGA-GSU: 50 Days

Halfway home folks. Hopefully the countdown is helping you get through the summer a little easier.

#50 Darryl Gamble, LB
6-2, 242, Bainbridge GA (Bainbridge HS), RS Soph.
The various recruiting services had Mr. Gamble all over the board when he came out of Bainbridge. ESPN thought he was a Top 100 recruit in the nation. Rivals merely had him as a Top 30 Linebacker in the country, while Scout thought he was Top 25 at his position. His school record of 6 blocked kicks in high school still stands. He chose UGA over scholarship offers from South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn. After a redshirt in 2006, he played in 10 games in '07, providing depth at Will linebacker, and compiling 13 tackles, a sack, and one very important fumble forced. Most people will look at that fumble and say that it was the key to turning UGA's 2007 season around. The Dawgs were staring straight in the face of a second straight loss to Vanderbilt, until Gamble put a finger on the ball and probably knocked the lid back off the program. Check the 6:00 minute mark of this video.

Depth Chart Analysis: Gamble remains #2 on the depth chart, this time around behind Rennie Curran. The fact that he was Most Improved Linebacker in the spring, as well as Biggest Defensive Surprise of the spring, should say something for him. This kid has a nose for the football. He'll make a few plays this season.
