Countdown to UGA-GSU: 49 Days

7 weeks to go!!! We're starting to ramp it up big time on C&C. Pretty soon I'll have the conference predictions rolling full force (Sun Belt and Mountain West have already gone up), my preseason Top 25, and a few other offerings from myself and other regular contributors. Stay tuned daily.

#49 Shaun Chapas, FB
6-2, 236, St Augustine FL (Bolles School), RS Soph.
Chapas is one of many great athletes to attend the Bolles School just below Jacksonville, among them former NBA player and Jacksonville Dolphin Dee Brown, Wake Forest QB Riley Skinner, former Georgia Tech WR and current NFL player Dez White, former NFL and Clemson kicker David Treadwell, and current Atlanta Brave and disabled list regular Larry W Jones. Chapas chose the Dawgs over a notable list of ACC schools, including Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Clemson. After an ACL tear just before the start of his senior year, Chapas redshirted in his first season at UGA. Before the 2007 season, Chapas was named Most Improved Running Back and primarily backed up Brannan Southerland, although he also played a good bit of special teams (recording 7 tackles.)
Depth Chart Analysis: Chapas probably never expected to be the starting fullback this early into his career, but thanks to Southerland's injury, and Fred Munzenmaier's arrest, he is the only true fullback available on the roster to start the season. He was going to play a good bit anyway, but now his development becomes very important. His experience last year was invaluable given everything that has happened. The Dawgs have serious depth at fullback once they get to full strength.
