Countdown to UGA-GSU: 48 Days

#48 Fred Munzenmaier, FB
6-2, 233, Norcross GA (Norcross HS), RS Soph.
Munzenmaier jumped on a UGA scholarship offer in 2005 after also receiving courtship from Colorado, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State. Rivals rated him a Top 50 player in the state of Georgia, and one of the Top 20 fullback prospects in the country. After a redshirt at UGA in 2006, Munzenmaier played in 10 games last season, recording a special teams tackle and scoring a touchdown on his only carry of the season (vs Ole Miss.) I watched him play a little in high school (before UGA even showed any interest in him), and I swear that even then I thought he was as strong a "downhill runner" as I had ever seen in person at the high school level. His arrest in the offseason will keep him out until the South Carolina game.
Depth Chart Analysis: Munzenmaier would have challenged Shaun Chapas for the starting job vacated by Brannan Southerland's injury, but the offseason problems with the law will set him back. He'll see a good bit of playing time one he returns (at least until Southerland gets back), but I'd guess that special teams and perhaps some backup fullback will be the most he'll get. His significant contributions likely begin in 2009.
