Countdown to UGA-GSU: 47 Days

#47 Andrew Williams, SS
6-0, 197, Blairsville GA (Union County HS), Sr.
Another in a long line of solid contributors among walk-ons at UGA. Williams walked on in 2003 and redshirted, but was named Outstanding Walk-On following the season. As a redshirt freshman, he played in all 12 games on special teams, recording 5 tackles. He suffered a nasty knee injury early in the 2005 season, but came back strong in 2006, playing in 11 games and even getting some reserve time on defense. 2007 was his strongest year, tallying 11 tackles on the season.
Depth Chart Analysis: Williams has earned his spot as a senior leader, both on the field and off. Not only will he likely end up as a special teams captain at a few different times this season, but he will probably begin to see more time at safety. He's currently listed as the #3 strong safety behind CJ Byrd and Quentin Banks, but he could be pushed by any number of incoming true freshman (Bacarri Rambo, Sanders Commings.)

He's played in all but 2 games during his career. That's pretty dang impressive, especially for a former walk-on. Should eat for free for the rest of his life at the Blairsville Restaurant.

I thought CMR gave Williams a scholarship last year...

He did. Williams is a scholarship player now, and deservedly so.
