Countdown to UGA-GSU: 42 Days

6 weeks to go, and even less than that until we get our first look at a college football game on TV.

#42 Justin Houston, DE
6-3, 250, Statesboro GA (Statesboro HS), RS Freshman
Houston was 1 of 2 Statesboro players to sign with the Dawgs in the 2007 class, and picked UGA over Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Florida. (Click the link to the left for a funny story.) He showed out in the 2006 Nike Training Camp in Athens, with a 35 inch vertical leap and a 4.8 forty (both were among the best for DEs at the camp.) After being recruited as a DE, Houston was moved to linebacker for work as a true freshman, which all but guaranteed an eventual redshirt as he learned his new position (he had never played LB in his life before fall camp of his freshman year.) After a full season of that, he eventually bulked up enough to move back down to End, which is where he'll be this season. (A move that Houston himself seems to be happy about.)
Depth Chart Analysis: After moving back to DE, Houston was impressive enough in spring to make sure he's a part of the regular rotation this season. How much he'll play is the question. He is still slightly undersized, and will need to get used to playing heavier than he ever has been. He's in the group with Demarcus Dobbs and Neland Ball battling for time on the field, who all now are a little more important for depth after Michael Lemon's dismissal.
