Countdown to UGA-GSU: 39 Days

#39 Nick Williams, S/LB
6-3, 205, Bainbridge GA (Bainbridge HS), True Freshman
If you could say that any Rivals 4-star player "flew under the radar", Williams would be a good candidate for that description. As a linebacker at Bainbridge (41 tackles and 3 interceptions in 2007), Williams ended up as an Honorable Mention Georgia AAAA All-State selection, but also played quarterback (almost 2500 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns in his career, including a 348 yard game.) In addition, he handled the punting and holding duties. Still, he was not a player that was offered by most of the schools in the Southeast. The question that most have about Williams coming into his college career, is not whether he'll play offense or defense (although Richt has stated publicly that he probably could play offense.) Its whether he'll play safety or linebacker.
Depth Chart Analysis: Let's see here.....a somewhat under the radar recruit from Southwest Georgia, coming off a terrific high school career playing offense, defense and special teams, seemingly stuck in between linebacker and safety, and likely to redshirt in his first season in Athens. Sounds alot like another Dawg great from a few years back (this one's for Bop):

Williams is likely to see a redshirt this season as well, and many believe that he's likely to begin his UGA career as a scout team safety. But don't be surprised to see him beef up a little, and end up starting his redshirt freshman season at linebacker.

JJ - Thanks for posting the old clips of TD. Man I miss seeing those kind of hits. We HAVE to get someone back there soon that de-cleat anything that runs. Man I miss seeing that guy in Athens

Funny since I got about 2 sentences into this post and all I could think of was Thomas Davis. I got to laughing quite a bit when I got to the Depth Chart Analysis.

If he ends up half the talent and character as Thomas was, then I'll have a new favorite player. His credentials are eerily similar. Btw...I still believe Thomas could have won a heisman if he played RB in college (not that I'd want him anywhere but on defense, just believe he was that dominate a athlete).
