Countdown to UGA-GSU: 34 Days

Kalvin Daniels, TB
5-10, 185, Eastman GA (Dodge County HS), Soph.
After a good career at Dodge County, Daniels got moderate interest from a few different Southern Conference schools like Georgia Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Wofford and UT-Chattanooga. He ultimately decided to come to UGA and walk-on (I bet those other schools are kicking themselves now), and he's made the most of it. He actually saw time in Sanford Stadium as a freshman, appearing in 3 games, getting 8 carries and averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Coming into the 2008 season, he was named Most Improved Running Back, and Outstanding Offensive Walk-On at the end of spring practice. He had an impressive G-Day game, and looks ready to challenge for some playing time again in 2008.
Depth Chart Analysis: While there is little chance that Daniels will get carries over Moreno or Caleb King, how much he plays this year could mean alot looking toward future seasons. If Daniels can emerge as a solid #3 tailback, UGA should be able to redshirt two of the incoming stud running backs, most likely Richard Samuel and Dontavious Jackson (Carlton Thomas will probably play this season regardless thanks to his return abilities, although both Samuel and Jackson were in school for spring practice, so either would be ready to play if needed.) Daniels is a pretty good talent for a walk-on, and he'll likely see some time this season (although most often in mop-up situations.)
