Countdown to UGA-GSU: 32 Days

#32 John Knox, S
6-2, 215, Statesboro GA (Statesboro HS), RS Freshman
Knox was what you'd call an extreme sleeper prospect, coming from Statesboro. He was virtually an afterthought until his senior year, but quickly rose up on the radar screens of many programs in the southeast. He visited UGA along with high school teammate Justin Houston, and both decided to attend school in Athens. After some question as to whether or not he would qualify, Knox reported to Athens during 2nd summer semester. A sleek 190 lbs when he arrived, Knox redshirted in 2007. He was as impressive as any DB on the scout team in 2007, and had a very, very good offseason and spring. His G-Day performance was outstanding, with 4 tackles and an interception. He put on about a few more lbs since the end of last season, and he's now ready to begin contributing on Saturdays.
Depth Chart Analysis: Knox will begin the season as Reshad Jones' primary backup at safety, but you can probably expect to see him play some special teams as well (at least this season.) He has really impressed the coaches since he arrived in Athens, and conventional wisdom is that he's going to be another in a long line of outstanding safeties to wear the red and black before his collegiate career is over. To be honest, the list of players that have never stepped on the field in Athens who are poised to become "great" is very, very long right now. Almost ridiculously long, in fact. Knox is another one on that list.

I agree. We are going to see great things from this kid...beginning this year.

We need him to step up big time. Especially if the injury bug strikes...
