Countdown to UGA-GSU: 89 Days

#89 Bruce Figgins, TE
6'4", 254, Columbus GA (Shaw HS), Soph.

In 2007, Figgins became the first true freshman to start the season opener at TE for Georgia since at least the mid 1960's. All he did in his debut was go out and catch an 11 yard TD in the 35-14 drubbing of Oklahoma State. He played in 12 games with one start and ended his freshman campaign with 3 catches for 24 yards. Just another in a long line of great tight ends to play between the hedges. Georgia has brought in a number of high profile recruits at this position in the last decade and Figgins would not be considered one of them. Yet, he showed up in Athens more physically and mentally prepared to play as an underclassman than most do at the tight end position. He is primarily a blocker, but does have good hands. Was part of the success Georgia had running the ball all season long with Knowshon Moreno and Thomas Brown.

This was from the 4th game of Figgins career as a true freshman. Not to mention the first road game he ever played in which happened to be at Alabama in a game that went to overtime:

Depth Chart Analysis: Expect Figgins to play a lot of snaps during his sophmore season. While not the offensive weapon from a recieving standpoint as some of the other tight ends on campus, the fact remains, he is the best pure blocker we have had at this position in quite some time. There will probably be a constant rotation of the top 3 te's this season. When you look down on the field and Figgins is in the game you will probably notice that you are also smiling. Thats because we are probably pounding Moreno and King and Southerland and imposing our will on opponents defenses.
